Mastering Conflict & Communication: A Guide for Entrepreneurs & Leaders
Have you ever had a conversation go sideways because of a misunderstanding? As an entrepreneur, leader, or business owner, effective communication isn’t just a skill—it’s the foundation of successful relationships, collaborations, and growth.
If you want to navigate difficult conversations
without stress or tension, try these
three communication strategies that will change how you handle conflict.
The Question That Will Change Your Life: ‘Is That What You Intended?’
Miscommunication happens when we assume intent based on impact.
Picture this: Someone makes a comment that feels rude or dismissive. Instead of reacting, you pause and ask:
👉 “Hey, is that what you intended?”
This question does two things:
✅ It
gives the other person a chance to clarify before emotions escalate.
✅ It
shifts the conversation from blame to understanding.
Most of the time, the response is: “No, I didn’t mean it that way.” And just like that, you avoid unnecessary conflict.
Try this next time you feel frustrated—and see how it changes the dynamic.
My Three R’s Trick: React, Repair, Repeat
Nobody is perfect. We all say the wrong thing sometimes. The key is knowing how to fix it.
Here’s my go-to method:
🔹
React – A comment is made, and it doesn’t land well.
🔹
Repair – Instead of avoiding it, you circle back: “Hey, I think that came out wrong. Can I rephrase?”
🔹
Repeat – You try again: “I meant to say…”
This strategy builds trust, honesty, and better communication habits—in both personal and professional relationships.
Final Thoughts
Great communication isn’t about saying all the right things—it’s about knowing how to navigate the moments when things don’t go perfectly.
